Men teach in long pants (Khakis or dress slacks, no jeans or cargo pants).
Women are required to wear skirts to school. They must be loose fitting and no shorter than knee length.
Three polo shirts with the school’s logo will be made available to you free of costs. You may bring additional plain polo shirts that can be printed with the school’s logo, for no costs. Closed-toed shoes are required. No sneakers or tennis shoes will be allowed. Flip-flops, sandals, slides, Crocs or Choco’s are not allowed for men or women for church or at school during work hours.

Women can wear modest shorts in the community during non-teaching or non-church times. Shorts must be Bermuda length and loose fitting. Pants and jeans are also permitted during non-teaching or non-church times as long as they are loose fitting. T-shirts must be worn during all water activities along with modest board shorts. Also, all footwear is acceptable during non-teaching or non-church times. Conservative hairstyles are preferred.
Men’s beards must be trimmed and neat if not clean-shaven.
Women - Tight and/or short shorts are never acceptable, nor sleeveless or sheer blouses or dresses.
Jewelry or bracelets are not allowed.
Volunteer will share an air-conditioned apartment with other volunteers. Basic furniture, bed, drawer space, table, chairs, small bookcase, and closet are provided. Kitchen is supplied with a stove or counter-top burner, a refrigerator, a microwave oven, rice cooker, and toaster. Table ware, flatware, basic cooking utensils, kettles and frying pans are provided. A bucket, mop, broom, dustpan, and toilet brush are provided. Volunteer provides his/her own pillow, sheets, blankets, towels, dish clothes/towels, and cleaning supplies. Volunteer is responsible for replacing burnt bulbs in their apartments. Electricity is 110 V.
Palau SDA Elementary School is a K-8 school serving over 200 students and situated on a fenced compound in the capital city of Koror within the country of the Republic of Belau (Palau). The Palau Central SDA church is located adjacent to the school. School staff are bussed daily from/to their housing on the campus of Palau Mission Academy located on the nearby island of Babeldaob
Serving as a missionary in Palau comes with great responsibility and high expectations. Not only does the role of missionary include being an effective teacher/educator, but also the expectation to excel socially and spiritually with everyone that the missionary will encounter. A Christ-like attitude and spiritual maturity must be evident during your stay. It is expected that a missionary must make an intentional effort to understand the mindset and culture of the island. Upon being accepted to serve in Palau, you will be joining a FAMILY. In this family everyone has a role. Some of those roles are clearly defined but others may not be. In this unique family everyone must be flexible. Because of the changing needs of our schools, be ready to help serve in whatever way is needed.
As teacher you will be involved in all aspects of teaching these classes. This includes lesson planning, grading, classroom management, counseling, instruction, supervision, keeping a clean classroom, contacting parents, and extra curricular activities. Due to the changing needs of our schools be ready to help serve in whatever way is needed. Will also be involved with church activities both in-reach and out-reach. Church attendance is required.

Important Orientation Information: Plan to arrive at Honolulu International Airport, Hawaii, on Friday, July 31, 2020, for Orientation meetings which begin at 6:15 p.m. that evening. Departure to your island school will be on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, on flight UA201 to Guam, arriving on Thursday, August 6. From Guam, proceed to Palau on UA157 that same evening, August 8. ***For volunteers from divisions other than NAD, please work with your Division Volunteer Coordinator regarding important ticketing information with MTS Travel.
